The AB carries Allan Border's initials — the model name Border's bats ran under through the 1980s, when he was one of the most recognisable players using the three wickets.

The Magnum was the first large-profile bat anyone made, and Botham took it through the 1981 Ashes — 149 not out at Headingley, 118 at Old Trafford. Viv Richards made a then-record 189 not out in an ODI with the same model.
